CTA Board of Directors Meeting
November Board Report
November 13-14, 2024

  • Add your name to NEA’s Pledge to protect our public schools and students from Trump and McMahon’s agenda to expand vouchers and eliminate the U.S. Department of Education.

  • New District K CTA/ABC Committee Member, Billie Joe Wright from Hacienda-La Puente TA. He can be reached at abc-bwright@cta.org.

  • At the October State Council meeting, CTA Elections held a forum where members from all over the state addressed concerns. Among them was a change to the Elections Manual that removed local chapters' ability to use district email addresses for voting (sending ballot links). The CTA Board unanimously reversed their decision to change the language at our Board Meeting (the original vote to change was split).

We know that using district email is not “best practice”, however, it works for dozens of chapters (representing tens of thousands of members) around the state. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about this.

  • GPO/WEP

The Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 82) passed the House by a vote of 327-75. The bipartisan push to repeal the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) is a direct result of our fight to secure the retirement earnings we all deserve! More than 280,000 Californians will see a boost in their retirement pay as well as future generations to come. Use this link to email our CA Senators to encourage support.

  • Teacher Apprenticeship Programs

Recently, staff and leaders attended an “Apprenticeship Accelerator” two-day convening on teaching apprenticeships. The meeting was designed to help districts and county offices of education (COE) that currently have a teacher residency program develop or integrate them into a teacher apprenticeship program. I’ve attached a PDF with more information. Click here to be redirected to PDF.

  • 2025-26 Representation Report

The CTA Board of Directors approved the proposed report (no changes in District K). This will go to the council in January. If you have specific questions about representation you can reach out to me or Michelle Ramos, District K Representation Committee Member.

CTA Budget Survey
Please encourage your members to complete the survey. The budget committee will be meeting before the State Council. District K’s Budget Committee Member is Billie Joe Wright.

  • The proposed bylaw amendment changing officers' terms from 2-year to 3-year terms will be voted on in January.

  • State Council Representatives who are interested in changing their committee must complete the form that was emailed out in October and talk to me [Wendy Eccles] as well.
